Have you ever needed a spiritual hug? I have.
Like when my dad was in the hospital.
When my friend did something hurtful.
When the guy I liked stopped liking me.
When I gave into the same old sin after promising God I wouldn’t.
In those moments, I needed to remember that God still loved me and He was there for me. That He had good plans for me or the people I cared about. When have you needed a spiritual hug from God?
Hugs are waiting for us in Scripture.
When I feel down, I open my Bible, especially to Psalms, and I look for the underlined verses. Reading them reminds me that God is big and He cares. Nothing can stand in His way. He works things for good. He forgives. I see His character again, and I learn to trust Him more. Some “hugs” are waiting for you in Scripture. Are you ready to find them?
Just like we may have a go-to routine when we’re feeling down—listening to music, seeing friends, watching our favorite movie—we need some go-to passages in Scripture that recharge our joy and excitement about life. Here are five statements about God’s love with four Bible passages under each of them. Look up a set of four passages per day, or even one passage per day, and write down phrases from the verses that are meaningful to you. If you’re used to marking verses in your Bible, underline the verses that you want to come back to you in the future.
